The Salzburg Cathedral (Dom) is a Baroque cathedral on the Domplatz, the church where Mozart was baptized. Free to enter. The interior is vast, with frescoes, marble, and a bronze font from 1311. The surrounding squares (Domplatz, Residenzplatz, Kapitelplatz) are all free and connected, forming the civic heart of the old town. Getreidegasse
Salzburg's most famous street and the heart of the Altstadt. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was born at No. 9 (Mozart's Birthplace). The Hagenauer family, the Mozarts' landlord, lived in the same building. The formal baroque gardens adjoining Mirabell Palace, freely accessible to all visitors. Franz Anton Danreiter created the definitive layout around 1730. Famous as the location where Julie Andrews performed "Do-Re-Mi" in The Sound of Music. The view toward Hohensalzburg Fortress is one of the most photographed scenes in the city.
Mönchsberg
The prominent cliff-faced hill on the western edge of the Altstadt, rising directly above the city. Topped by the Museum der Moderne Monchsberg and criss-crossed with walking paths. The cliff face forms the backdrop of Stift St. Peter, the Felsenreitschule, and the Grosses Festspielhaus.
