What this is
A running list of what European cities cost, written for someone planning from a laptop rather than standing in front of the thing.
NoCostNomad exists because the useful half of a travel page is usually missing. Plenty of sites will tell you a cathedral is beautiful. Far fewer will tell you that the nave is free, the tower is not, and the queue at opening is shorter than the queue at noon. That second kind of sentence is the whole brief here.
How listings are chosen
A place earns an entry when there is something specific to say about what it costs to be there: free entry, a paid tier worth skipping, a viewpoint that charges nothing a hundred metres from one that charges twelve euros. Places with nothing to say about cost are left out rather than padded.
Where a cost is known, it appears at the top of the page, above the prose, because it is the reason to read on. Where it is not known, the section is absent rather than empty. A vague price is worse than no price: it reads like research that was not done.
Prices themselves move, so the pages avoid printing numbers that go stale. Free on the first Sunday of the month survives a year. Twelve euros does not.
Who writes it
NoCostNomad is written and run by one person, and it does not pretend to have stood in all of these squares. Where there is first-hand experience the pages say concrete things; where there is not, they stick to what is checkable and leave the atmosphere to somebody who was actually there. That is also why there are almost no photographs yet: the site uses its own illustrations rather than stock images of places it has never been.
NoCostNomad is a brand of Free Walking Tour Salzburg e.U. Nothing on the site is paid placement, and no entry is here because someone asked for it.
Maps
The map shows real coordinates on open map data. It is either accurate or it does not exist; there is no decorative middle. Map data is OpenStreetMap under ODbL.
