Viewpoint in Salzburg
The Eagle’s Nest (Kehlsteinhaus) is a mountaintop retreat built for Hitler in 1938, perched at 1,834 meters above the Berchtesgaden valley. The building is now a restaurant and viewpoint. Access is by a special bus (paid) from the Kehlstein parking area, followed by a brass-lined elevator carved through the mountain to the summit. The views cover the Konigssee, the Salzburg Alps, and on clear days, the Grossglockner. Budget travelers take the cheap bus from Salzburg to Berchtesgaden, then the special bus to the top, and stand on a balcony where history and geography collide.

Salzburg's most famous street and the heart of the Altstadt. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was born at No. 9 (Mozart's Birthplace). The Hagenauer family, the Mozarts' landlord, lived in the same building. The street is known for its medieval wrought-iron guild signs, narrow passages (Durchhäuser), and historic shopfronts.
