The Church of St John at Kaneo is a 13th-century church perched on a cliff above Lake Ohrid, reached by a path from the old town or from the lakefront. Free to view from outside (small fee for the interior). The setting is extraordinary: the tiny stone church against the blue lake and the mountains. Budget travelers walk along the lakefront path, photograph the church from below, climb to it, and swim from the rocks beneath.
