Metelkova is a former military barracks turned autonomous cultural center in Ljubljana, covered in street art, murals, and sculptures. Free to walk through. The complex hosts clubs, galleries, live music, and art studios. It is Ljubljana’s answer to Berlin’s squatter culture, smaller but spirited. Budget travelers visit during the day for the art and at night for some of the cheapest drinks and live music in the city.

An Art Nouveau bridge guarded by four copper dragon statues, the unofficial symbol of Ljubljana. Built in 1901, it was one of the first reinforced concrete bridges in Europe. The dragons have become the city's mascot. Located one bridge east of the Triple Bridge, connecting the market area to the Metelkova district.
Krakovo is a neighborhood within Ljubljana that feels like a village, with medieval vegetable gardens that still supply the Central Market, low stone houses, and the Church of St James. Free to walk.
A hilltop castle above Ljubljana's old town, reachable by funicular or on foot. The castle terrace gives 360-degree views across the city, the Julian Alps, and the Kamnik range. The castle houses a museum, a virtual history experience, and a restaurant. The funicular base is in the old town market area.
Designed by Joze Plecnik along the Ljubljanica riverbank, this open-air and covered market is the social heart of the city. The riverside colonnade is one of Plecnik's signature works. Fridays bring "Open Kitchen," a popular street food market.
Preseren Square is Ljubljana's central gathering place, anchored by the 1905 bronze statue of France Preseren, Slovenia's national poet, facing the pink Franciscan Church of the Annunciation at the foot of the Triple Bridge. The square is not large but it functions as the social and navigational center of the city.
The Tromostovje (Triple Bridge) is the defining piece of Ljubljana's urban landscape and the signature work of Joze Plecnik, the Slovenian architect who redesigned much of the city in the interwar period.
