14th-century Gothic church at the edge of the old town, overlooking Plaza de la Virgen Blanca. An exterior niche between the entrance arches holds the figure of the Virgen Blanca, the White Virgin, patron of Vitoria-Gasteiz. Entry is free, which makes it an easy stop while walking the old town between the Old Cathedral of Santa Maria and the Los Arquillos arcade.
The church is also the spiritual anchor of the Fiestas de la Blanca, the city’s main celebration in early August. The festival opens with a figure of Celedon descending by rope from the San Miguel tower to the square below, and closes there days later, so travelers who time a visit land in the middle of the city’s most local week of the year, all for the price of showing up.

The interior is closed to the public, but the building and its grounds are free to view from outside, which is the whole appeal for a budget traveler passing through.
15th-century Gothic townhouse named for the carved Franciscan cord that frames its main doorway, and one of the oldest civil buildings in the old town of Vitoria-Gasteiz. Free to admire from the street, so it costs nothing to add to a walk through the medieval quarter.
