The old town is compact and walkable, with Roman ruins and church squares you can take in for free, and rooms run cheaper than down the coast in Split or Dubrovnik. Nearby Sibenik makes an easy budget day trip. Late spring and September bring warm sea and fewer crowds than the July and August peak.
