Mostar packs a UNESCO World Heritage sight into a town you can see for almost nothing: the Stari Most, the rebuilt Ottoman stone bridge over the turquoise Neretva, is free to walk and open at all hours. Wandering the cobbled Kujundžiluk bazaar and the old town costs nothing, and the smaller Crooked Bridge (Kriva Ćuprija) just upstream is free too. Scramble down to the river banks below the arch for the best free viewpoint, and on a warm day the rocks double as a swimming and sunbathing spot, where you may catch the famous bridge divers leaping for donations. Bosnian classics like ćevapi and burek run cheap in the bazaar, so a filling meal stays in the few-euros range. Come in the May to June or September to October shoulder season for mild weather, thinner crowds, and lower room rates. Mostar pairs naturally with Sarajevo inland or the Croatian coast at Dubrovnik and Split, all reachable by budget bus.

Crooked Bridge
The Kriva Cuprija (Crooked Bridge) is a small Ottoman stone arch bridge near the Stari Most, built in 1558 as a test before the construction of the larger bridge began. Free to cross.
Koski Mehmed Pasha Mosque
The Koski Mehmed Pasha Mosque sits on the riverbank near Stari Most with a minaret that offers the best elevated view of the bridge and the river. Entry to the mosque and the minaret are each a small fee.
Kravice Falls
The Kravice Falls are a crescent-shaped series of waterfalls on the Trebizat River, 40 kilometers south of Mostar. Entry is paid at a modest price.
Mostar Old Bazaar
The Old Bazaar (Kujundziluk) is the cobblestone market street leading to Stari Most, lined with coppersmith shops, carpet sellers, and souvenir stalls. Free to browse.
Sniper Tower
The Sniper Tower is a bombed-out former bank building on the Boulevard, still standing as an unofficial war memorial covered in graffiti and street art. Free to see from outside (entering the unstable structure is not officially permitted but some do).
Stari Most
Stari Most (the Old Bridge) is a 16th-century Ottoman arch bridge over the Neretva River, rebuilt in 2004 after its destruction in the 1993 war. Free to cross.
