Bridge in Mostar
Stari Most (the Old Bridge) is a 16th-century Ottoman arch bridge over the Neretva River, rebuilt in 2004 after its destruction in the 1993 war. Free to cross. The bridge and the old town around it are UNESCO-listed. Local divers jump from the bridge for tips (and for tourists who pay to watch from the riverbank below). Budget travelers cross the slippery cobblestones of the bridge, lean over the railing, and take in the turquoise river and stone houses on both banks.
