Black Church
The Black Church (Biserica Neagra) is the largest Gothic church between Vienna and Istanbul, named for the soot stains left by the great fire of 1689. Entry is paid at a modest price.
Mountain in Brasov
Tampa Mountain rises directly behind Brasov’s old town to 960 meters, with a cable car (paid) and a hiking trail (free, about 45 minutes). The “BRASOV” sign (Hollywood-style) is visible from the town below. The summit offers panoramic views over the old town, the surrounding Carpathian mountains, and the green valleys of Transylvania. Budget travelers hike up the trail through the forest for free and look down at a town that looks like it was placed there by a set designer.
