Church in Sibenik
The Cathedral of St James in Sibenik is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the only cathedral in Europe built entirely of stone without any wood or brick, using interlocking stone plates for the roof and dome. Entry is paid at a modest price. The exterior frieze of 71 carved heads (depicting real citizens of 15th-century Sibenik) is visible for free from the street. Budget travelers photograph the heads from outside, pay the small ticket to see the stone construction technique inside, and understand why this building is considered a masterpiece of European engineering.
