Street in Sibenik
Sibenik’s old town is a hillside labyrinth of stone stairways, narrow passages, and small squares climbing from the waterfront to St Michael’s Fortress at the top (paid, cheap, with panoramic views and summer concerts). Free to walk. The old town is less polished than Dubrovnik or Split and feels more authentic for it. Budget travelers climb from the harbor to the fortress, photograph the Adriatic from the ramparts, and eat at the cheap konobas in the side streets.

The Cathedral of St James in Sibenik is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the only cathedral in Europe built entirely of stone without any wood or brick, using interlocking stone plates for the roof and dome. Entry is paid at a modest price.
