Basilica di Santo Spirito
Santo Spirito is a Brunelleschi-designed church on the Piazza Santo Spirito in the Oltrarno, with a plain facade that hides one of the most perfectly proportioned Renaissance interiors in Florence. Free to enter. A crucifix attributed to the young Michelangelo (carved when he was 17) hangs in the sacristy (small fee). The piazza hosts a morning market and is the center of Oltrarno nightlife. Budget travelers enter for free and see Brunelleschi’s geometry at its purest.
