Oltrarno is the neighborhood south of the Arno, reached by crossing Ponte Vecchio. Free to wander. The streets are lined with artisan workshops (leatherworkers, frame makers, restorers), local trattorias, and the Piazza Santo Spirito with its daily market and evening aperitivo scene. Budget travelers eat and drink here at prices 30-40% lower than the north bank and find the Florence that has not yet been overtaken by tourism.
