The Leipzig Markt (Market Square) is the central square with the Old Town Hall (Altes Rathaus, one of the finest Renaissance town halls in Germany, free to see from outside), the Naschmarkt (a covered passage), and surrounding Baroque and Art Nouveau buildings. Free. Budget travelers walk from the Thomaskirche to the Markt and through the Madlerpassage (a covered shopping arcade with Auerbachs Keller, the restaurant where Goethe set a scene in Faust).
