The wooden houses along Karaimų Street belong to the Karaite community, a Turkic people brought to Trakai in the 14th century. Walking the street with its colorful three-windowed houses is free.

The lake surrounding Trakai Castle has 21 islands and clear water that reflects the castle and surrounding forests. Swimming and walking the lakeshore trails are free. Renting a pedal boat or kayak for a closer look at the castle costs very little.
