The Museum in der Kulturbrauerei is a free museum inside a former brewery complex in Prenzlauer Berg, documenting everyday life in East Germany (GDR). Free. The permanent exhibition “Everyday Life in the GDR” uses original objects, photographs, and documents to show what living under communism actually felt like. The brewery complex itself is a cultural center with cafes, a cinema, and a Christmas market in winter. Budget travelers visit the museum for free and get one of the most honest depictions of GDR life in Berlin.
