Alexanderplatz
Alexanderplatz is the large public square in former East Berlin, dominated by the Fernsehturm (TV Tower), the World Clock, and the Galeria department store. Free to walk through. The TV Tower observation deck is paid. The square is not beautiful but it is historically important and functionally central. Budget travelers use it as a transport hub and photograph the TV Tower from below, which is free and almost as satisfying as the view from the top.
