The Petite Venise (Little Venice) quarter, with half-timbered houses leaning over a narrow canal, is the most photographed area. The Maison des Tetes (House of Heads, covered in 106 carved faces) and the Maison Pfister are free to admire from outside. Budget travelers take the cheap train from Strasbourg (30 minutes) and walk through what feels like a life-sized illustration from a Grimm fairy tale.
