Fortress in Merida
The oldest Muslim fortification on the Iberian Peninsula, built with stones recycled from Roman and Visigothic buildings. The walls and cistern are included in the combined site ticket, and the views over the Roman bridge and Guadiana river are excellent.

Adjacent to the theatre, this gladiatorial arena once held 15,000 spectators and retains much of its original structure. The combined archaeological site ticket includes both venues, concentrating two millennia of history in a single visit.
One of the longest surviving Roman bridges, stretching 792 meters across the Guadiana river on 60 arches. Completely free to walk across, it connects the Alcazaba to the far bank and is best seen at sunset when the stone glows golden.
