Mykonos is known for its party scene and premium prices, but visiting in the shoulder season and staying outside the main town makes the iconic windmills and white-washed streets more accessible to budget travelers. Wandering Mykonos Town (Chora), watching the sunset by the windmills, and exploring the Little Venice waterfront all cost nothing. Late spring and early autumn bring warm weather, lower room rates, and far thinner crowds than July and August. For a cheaper Cycladic base, the nearby islands of Naxos and Santorini are an easy ferry away.
