Burgas is a laid-back Black Sea port city and one of the cheaper coastal bases in Bulgaria. The long city beach and the Sea Garden park along the shore both cost nothing to enjoy, and wandering the pedestrian streets of the center fills an easy afternoon. It makes a practical jumping-off point for the old town of Nesebar and the artist village of Sozopol just down the coast, with Varna reachable to the north. Late spring and early autumn bring warm water without peak-season prices.

Poda Nature Reserve
A protected wetland just south of the city, home to pelicans, herons, and over 260 bird species on the Via Pontica migration route. Free to visit with observation hides along the boardwalk trails.
Sea Garden Burgas
A sprawling seaside park stretching for over seven kilometres along the Black Sea coast with sculptures, paths, and a small zoo. Entirely free and the social centre of Burgas in summer.
St. Cyril and Methodius Cathedral
An early 20th-century cathedral in the city centre with colourful frescoes and stained glass. Free to enter and the most prominent landmark in Burgas' compact downtown.
