Church in Pisa
Santa Maria della Spina is a tiny Gothic church on the bank of the Arno, covered in pinnacles, statues, and carved marble. Free to admire from outside (interior opens irregularly for a small fee). The church is so small and ornate it looks like a reliquary box placed by the river. Budget travelers photograph it from the Lungarno and see one of the most delicate Gothic buildings in Italy.

The Piazza dei Miracoli (Field of Miracles) is a UNESCO-listed complex of white marble buildings: the Cathedral, the Baptistery, the Camposanto cemetery, and the Leaning Tower, all set on a vast green lawn. The piazza and the Cathedral interior are free.
The Lungarno is the riverside promenade along both banks of the Arno through the center of Pisa, lined with pastel-colored palaces, churches, and the Palazzo Blu (cultural center). Free to walk.
