Portara
The Portara is the marble gateway of an unfinished 6th-century BC Temple of Apollo, standing alone on a small peninsula connected to Naxos Town by a causeway. Free. The gate frames the sunset over the Aegean and is the most photographed monument in the Cyclades after the Santorini caldera. Budget travelers walk out to the Portara at sunset and stand inside a doorway that has been framing the same view for 2,500 years.
