Naxos Old Town
Naxos Town (Chora) has a Venetian castle district (Kastro) at its heart, a medieval walled neighborhood with narrow lanes, arched passages, and views from the ramparts. Free to walk. The town is less polished than Mykonos or Santorini and more authentically Greek. Budget travelers arrive by ferry from Athens (cheaper than flying to the more famous islands), explore the Kastro for free, and eat at the tavernas along the waterfront at prices lower than any other popular Cycladic island.
