Livraria Lello
Livraria Lello is one of the most beautiful bookshops in the world, with a neo-Gothic facade, a carved wooden staircase, and a stained-glass ceiling. Entry requires a small voucher that can be redeemed against a book purchase. The interior is spectacular, but the crowds are heavy. Budget travelers buy the voucher, pick up a Portuguese paperback, and treat it as both an attraction and a souvenir. Visit early in the morning to avoid queues.
