Fortress in Split
Klis Fortress
Klis Fortress is a medieval hilltop fortress 14 kilometers north of Split, perched on a cliff pass between two mountains. Entry is paid at a modest price. The fortress was used as the city of Meereen in Game of Thrones. The views from the ramparts cover Split, the islands, and the Dalmatian hinterland. Budget travelers take the cheap bus from Split (30 minutes), pay the small ticket, and walk the walls of a fortress that held off the Ottomans for 25 years before falling in 1537.

Diocletian's Palace
