Monument in Geneva
The Jet d’Eau is Geneva’s iconic water fountain on Lake Geneva, shooting water 140 meters into the air. Free to see from the lakeside promenades. The jetty at the base of the fountain is free to walk. Budget travelers walk along the Quai du Mont-Blanc, photograph the jet against the Mont Blanc massif on clear days, and continue along the lake without spending anything.

Geneva's Vieille Ville (Old Town) climbs a hill above the lake, centered on the Cathedral of St Pierre (free entry, tower climb paid). The Place du Bourg-de-Four (Geneva's oldest square), the Reformation Wall (free), and the narrow streets of antique shops and cafes are all within walking distance.
Parc des Bastions is a public park below the Old Town with the Reformation Wall (a 100-meter monument depicting the founders of Calvinism), giant chess boards (free to play), and the University of Geneva building. Free.
