Bodrum’s old town is a compact grid of whitewashed houses, bougainvillea, and narrow lanes climbing the hillside behind the castle. Free to walk. The marina promenade is lined with restaurants and boutiques. Budget travelers walk the old town alleys, swim at the free public beaches on either side of the castle, and eat cheap gozleme (Turkish flatbread) from the market stalls.
