Dinant is a small Wallonian town dramatically wedged between river cliffs and a hilltop citadel above the Meuse. The riverside is free to walk, and the onion-domed collegiate church and the colorful painted saxophones along the bridge (a nod to local son Adolphe Sax) cost nothing to enjoy. It makes an easy day trip from Brussels or nearby Namur, and pairs well with Liege further down the river.
