Turku Castle is a medieval fortress at the mouth of the Aura River, the largest surviving medieval building in Finland. Entry is paid at a modest price. The castle has been a fortress, a prison, a granary, and now a museum spanning Finnish history from the medieval period to the 20th century. Budget travelers take the cheap train from Helsinki (2 hours) and see the oldest surviving building in Finland.
