Regent’s Park is one of London’s Royal Parks, a large green space on the north edge of the central city with formal gardens, a boating lake, an open-air theatre, and sports pitches. Like all the Royal Parks it is free to enter. The Queen Mary’s Gardens hold the largest rose collection in London and are at their best in early summer, also free to walk through. Primrose Hill at the northern edge offers one of the best free panoramic views of the city skyline. Some things inside the park cost money, such as hiring a boat on the lake, a ticket to the Open Air Theatre in summer, or entry to ZSL London Zoo at the north end, but none of that is needed for a good day. Budget travelers walk from Camden Market through the park up to Primrose Hill and get a full afternoon of free outdoor time.
