Ninth Fort
The Ninth Fort is a 19th-century military fortification on the outskirts of Kaunas that was used as a site of mass murder during the Holocaust. Entry is paid at a modest price. The memorial, the museum, and the preserved cells document the killing of over 50,000 people, most of them Lithuanian Jews. Budget travelers take the cheap bus from the center and visit one of the most important Holocaust memorial sites in the Baltics.
