The main square is dominated by the Renaissance town hall with its Gothic tower. Climbing the tower costs a small fee for panoramic views. The square itself is free and hosts the famous Christmas market in December, one of Germany’s most atmospheric.

This tiny fork in the road where two towers frame a half-timbered house is the most photographed spot in Rothenburg and arguably in all of Germany. Completely free to visit, it looks best in the golden hour before sunset when day-trippers have left.
Rothenburg's complete medieval town wall circuit is free to walk, offering rooftop views over the red-tiled houses and the Tauber Valley below. The covered walkway stretches for roughly 2.5 kilometers and is one of the best-preserved wall walks in Germany.
