The Roman Amphitheater in Piazza Sant’Oronzo is a 2nd-century arena partially excavated in the center of Lecce, visible from the square above. Free to see from the street level. The amphitheater once held 25,000 spectators. Budget travelers lean over the railing and look down at Roman ruins that were only discovered in 1901 when workers were building a bank.
