Kensington Gardens adjoin Hyde Park to the west and stay free and open daily across their 265 acres. Inside are the Serpentine Galleries with free contemporary art exhibitions, the Albert Memorial, the Peter Pan statue, the formal Italian Gardens, and the Diana Memorial Playground, all free to see. At the western edge stands Kensington Palace, where Queen Victoria was born and Princess Diana lived. The grounds and the palace exterior cost nothing; only the interior state apartments charge admission, around 25 GBP. Budget travelers in London walk straight through from Hyde Park, stop at the free Serpentine Galleries, photograph the Albert Memorial, and circle the palace from the outside without spending a thing.
