Hvar Town is the main settlement on Hvar Island, a Venetian-era port with a marble main square, a 16th-century cathedral, and yacht-lined harbor. Free to walk. The town has a reputation for luxury, but the backstreets have cheap konobas (taverns) and the beaches outside town are public and free. Budget travelers take the cheap catamaran from Split, explore the old town, and swim at the beaches along the coast.
