Founded in 1483, the Antezana Foundation Hospital is one of the oldest continuously operating hospitals in Europe and still works today as a charitable almshouse. Rodrigo de Cervantes, father of the writer Miguel de Cervantes, is said to have worked here as a barber-surgeon, which puts the building on the same short Cervantes walk as the Cervantes Birthplace Museum and Plaza de Cervantes. The arcaded inner courtyard, with its timber galleries, is the quiet highlight and a lesser-known stop. Entry is free, so it adds nothing to the cost of a day trip from Madrid beyond the cheap Cercanias train fare.

It is one of the most ornate interiors in Alcala de Henares and is normally seen as part of the university guided tour rather than as a free standalone stop.
Complutum is the open-air ruin of the Roman city that grew where Alcala de Henares stands today, with an excavated forum, public baths, and townhouses whose mosaic floors still survive in the open. Entry is free, and the regional train from Madrid puts it within easy reach, which makes it one of the cheapest serious Roman sites in central Spain.
