Mausoleum of Galla Placidia

The Mausoleum of Galla Placidia is a tiny 5th-century chapel covered in deep blue mosaics with gold stars, crosses, and figures. Included in the combined ticket with San Vitale. The interior is no bigger than a large room but the mosaic ceiling creates an effect of standing under a night sky made of glass. Budget travelers visit with the combined ticket and see the most intense small space in Italian art.
