Viewpoint in Hamburg
The Elbphilharmonie Plaza is a free public viewing platform on the 8th floor of Hamburg’s concert hall, a glass wave sitting on top of a former cocoa warehouse on the Elbe. Free (timed tickets available online or at the door). The plaza wraps around the building and offers 360-degree views over the harbor, the city, and the river. Budget travelers pick up a free ticket and ride the curved escalator (the longest in Europe) to the plaza for one of the best free views in any European city.

Planten un Blomen is a 47-hectare park in the center of Hamburg with a Japanese garden (the largest in Europe), a tropical greenhouse, roller-skating rinks, and free water-light concerts on the lake in summer evenings (May-September, 10pm). Free.
