The Eisbach Wave is a standing wave in a man-made channel at the southern edge of the Englischer Garten where surfers ride the river year-round, in wetsuits in winter and boardshorts in summer. Free to watch (surfing requires skill). The wave draws crowds of spectators at the bridge on Prinzregentenstrasse. Budget travelers stand on the bridge, watch surfers ride a river wave in the middle of a landlocked city, and see one of the most unexpected free spectacles in Europe.

Leo von Klenze custom-designed one hall in the Alte Pinakothek to be tall enough to hang Rubens's Last Judgment, which stands over 6 meters.
