Dom Tower

The Dom Tower is the tallest church tower in the Netherlands at 112 meters, separated from the cathedral by a gap where the nave collapsed in a storm in 1674. Entry to climb the tower is paid. The Domplein (cathedral square) between the tower and the remaining church is free and unique in Europe for being a square that exists only because a church fell down. Budget travelers photograph the tower, walk through the gap, and decide whether the 465-step climb is worth the ticket.
