Cadiz Old Town

Cadiz claims to be the oldest continuously inhabited city in Western Europe, a compact peninsula of narrow streets, plazas, and crumbling pastel-colored buildings surrounded by the Atlantic on three sides. Free to walk. The Playa de la Caleta (a small city beach between two forts), the Cathedral, and the Mercado Central are the highlights. Budget travelers take the cheap train from Seville (1.5 hours), walk the old town, swim at the beach, and eat fried fish for a few euros.
