A contemporary art museum designed by Peter Zumthor, considered one of the finest museum buildings of the late 20th century. The translucent glass facade glows at night. The interior is four stacked concrete exhibition floors with natural light filtering through the shell. KUB hosts international rotating exhibitions with no permanent collection.
The Oberstadt of Bregenz is the original medieval town, perched on a hill above the modern lakeside city and enclosed by remnants of its Roman-era and medieval walls. The Martinsturm, with its enormous Baroque onion dome, is the visual anchor and houses a small local history museum.
The Pfänder rises to 1,064 meters directly above Bregenz on Lake Constance, and the four-country panorama from its summit, covering Austria, Germany, Switzerland, and Liechtenstein in a single sweep, is one of the most compact displays of Central European geography available from any single viewpoint.
