Street in Bilbao

Bilbao Old Town

The Casco Viejo (Old Town) of Bilbao is a compact grid of pedestrian streets known as the Siete Calles (Seven Streets), with pintxos bars, the Santiago Cathedral, and the Mercado de la Ribera (Europe’s largest covered market by surface area). Free to walk. Budget travelers eat pintxos here bar by bar, spending 2-3 euros per piece, and get Basque gastronomy at budget prices. The market building is free to enter and has cheap food counters on the upper floor.
