Church in Venice

Basilica dei Frari

FreeCosts nothing to visit.

The Basilica di Santa Maria Gloriosa dei Frari is a 14th-century Gothic church in San Polo, housing Titian’s Assumption of the Virgin (the largest altarpiece in Venice), Bellini’s Madonna with Saints in the sacristy, and Canova’s pyramid tomb. Entry is paid at a modest price. The church is less crowded than St Mark’s and the art is arguably more moving. Budget travelers pay the small ticket and see two of the greatest paintings in Venetian art.
