One of the world's steepest standard-gauge railways, climbing 863 metres through tunnels, past waterfalls, and along mountain ledges. Not cheap by budget standards, but a once-in-a-lifetime engineering experience included in some Norway in a Nutshell passes.
A cluster of 27 restored farm buildings from the 1700s perched on a hillside above the fjord with views down to Flam. The grounds are accessible and the small admission fee supports preservation of one of Norway's best-kept rural heritage sites.
