Annecy Old Town

Annecy’s old town (Vieille Ville) is a picture-book neighborhood of medieval arcaded streets, colorful houses, and canals leading to the turquoise lake. Free to walk. The Palais de l’Isle (a 12th-century building on an island in the Thiou canal, Annecy’s most photographed landmark) is paid to enter but free to photograph. Budget travelers walk through the old town, photograph the Palais de l’Isle from the bridges, and continue to the lakefront.
