Alexander Nevsky Cathedral
The Alexander Nevsky Cathedral is one of the largest Orthodox cathedrals in the world, dominating the Sofia skyline with its gold dome. Free to enter. The interior is dark, cavernous, and filled with icons, frescoes, and marble columns. The crypt below (small fee) houses one of the finest collections of Orthodox icons in the Balkans. Budget travelers visit the cathedral for free and decide whether the crypt is worth the modest ticket.
