A 16th-century coastal fortress at the mouth of the Lima River, built to defend the port. The exterior and grounds are free to visit, with views across the river to Praia do Cabedelo and out to the Atlantic.
A decommissioned hospital ship that supported Portugal's cod fishing fleet in Newfoundland waters, now a museum ship docked in the harbor. A small admission fee covers the entire vessel, telling the story of the Portuguese bacalhau tradition.
A long Atlantic beach across the Lima River from the city center, reached by a short ferry ride. Free access, popular with surfers and kitesurfers, and far less crowded than Algarve beaches.
